Springville man sentenced to two years in prison in firearms case

A Springville man convicted of possession of a firearm in interstate commerce after a felony conviction has been sentenced to 24 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank T. Pimentel said on Jan. 10, 2014, a search warrant was executed at the then-home of Daniel J. Bakowski, 35, on Eagle Street in Freedom, Cattaraugus County, where police discovered a Smith & Wesson 12-gauge shotgun and a digital scale with cocaine residue on it in Bakowski’s bedroom. Officers also found evidence of a marijuana grow operation in the basement, which Bakowski admitted to operating, Pimentel said.

The investigation was conducted by State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr.
