McDuffies Bakery is bringing its famous pot pies and shortbread cookies to downtown East Aurora.
The family bakery will open a store at 718 Main St. “about three buildings down from Vidler’s,” July 30, said owner Brian Thomas.
“We will have frozen pot pies, short bread, all our pastry offerings,” he said.
The plans have been in the works for about a year. McDuffies, named for Thomas’ mother’s family, has developed a fan base at the East Aurora farmers market, he said. He said the bakery will continue at the farmer’s market this year, and will make a decision about continuing the market next year.
The family opened the bakery in Clarence in 1976, and opened the retail store on Main Street in Clarence about six years ago. The East Aurora location will not offer the full breakfast and lunch, but will have all the frozen pot pies, (chicken, chicken cheddar broccoli, steak and Guinness, chicken curry, chicken fiesta and seafood,) steam baked artisan breads, pastries, home made soups and short bread cookies – the same cookies that are shipped throughout the country.
There will be a few tables for coffee and Danish, Thomas said. The baked goods and soups will be prepared overnight in Clarence and delivered to East Aurora daily.
Thomas said the Clarence store attracts customers from throughout the area, and as far as Rochester.
“The common theme we hear, is we’d love to have a McDuffies in our town,” he said.
The bakery plans to open another location in about a year, possibly in Hamburg, where it also has developed a following at the farmers market, Thomas said.
The shop is expected to be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, and probably will be closed on Sundays.
