Kathryn G. Cohen, former Planned Parenthood social worker

Kathryn G. Cohen, a former social worker, died Sunday at Beechwood Nursing Home in Getzville after a brief illness. She was 95.

The former Kathryn Grossman was born in New York City, where she graduated from Wadleigh High School for Girls and Hunter College.

Cohen moved to Buffalo in 1956 when her husband, the late Dr. Elias Cohen, accepted a job at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Mrs. Cohen worked as a social worker at Planned Parenthood and was later an avid volunteer at the University at Buffalo Health Sciences Library.

Mrs. Cohen was a longtime resident of Parkview Estates in Tonawanda.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1992.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Rosenblatt; a son, Jonathan; two grandsons; a step-sister, Ruth Needle; and longtime partner Lewis Coburn.

Services will be private, with a memorial service to follow at a future date.
