Healthy choices: Lots of free yoga, a Slow Roll, kale eating contest top picks of the week

A holiday slow roll today, free yoga Tuesday, Wednesday and over the weekend, and the first Taste of Buffalo kale eating competition lead the pack when it comes to the Top 10 WNY Refresh Calendar Picks of the week.

MONDAY

Slow Roll in the Old 1st Ward: Riders gather at 5:30 p.m. and ride starts at 6:30 sharp on Monday in Riverfest Park, 249 Ohio St. Bikers up to age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

TUESDAY

Making Sense of Common Core: For students with developmental disabilities and special needs, 6 p.m., Parent Network of WNY, 1000 Main St. RSVP by phone at 332-4170 or email info@parentnetworkwny.org. Free.

Family Power Yoga: 5 p.m., Canalside; also Kidding Around Family Yoga at noon Wednesday, Canalside. Bring your own yoga mat. Both are free.

Taste of Buffalo “Kale Yeah! The World’s Healthiest Eating Championship”: 2 p.m., steps of City Hall. Ranked Major League Eating competitors Eric “Badlands” Booker, Carmen Cincotti and “Buffalo” Jim Reeves are among eight scheduled contestants who will have eight minutes eat as much kale salad as possible. Part of the 33rd Taste of Buffalo, which features samples from more than 60 vendors, including restaurants, food trucks and regional wineries. Budding Tree Yoga Festival: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wilkeson Pointe, Buffalo Outer Harbor, 225 Fuhrmann Blvd. Free yoga throughout the day presented by Budding Tree Yoga in partnership with the Himalayan Institute of Buffalo, East Meets West Yoga Studio, Fit2BWell, Buffalo Natural Awakenings, Body Glyphix Holistic Studio, Yogis in Service, Coyle Chiropractic and Kiddie Corner Daycare. Sponsored by Wegmans.  Bring sunscreen, a yoga mat, a blanket or a towel for under your mat, (in case the grass is damp) and wear comfortable clothes that are suitable for movement.
