German national rescued after falling into Niagara Gorge

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – A 71-year-old German man who was hiking with his family Thursday fell about 65 feet into the Niagara Gorge, according to Niagara Parks Police.

The man, who suffered cuts to his face and head that were not considered life-threatening, had left a marked trail about 2:45 p.m., according to Niagara Parks Police, who conducted the rescue with Niagara Falls Fire and Niagara EMS. The victim, who was found just north of Thompson’s Point, was stabilized, placed in a rescue litter and carried by emergency services to Thompson’s Point, then flown to Hamilton General Hospital.

The victim’s name has not been released.
