Angola man charged after fighting with Orchard Park police

Police responded to the report of a brawl in the parking of an Orchard Park bar about midnight Friday, and when they arrived, an employee told them that the people involved were “highly intoxicated” but had departed in a vehicle south on Orchard Park Road.

Police went in that direction and soon saw the vehicle that was described and attempted to stop it for vehicle and traffic law violations. Instead of pulling over, the vehicle continued and later pulled into a driveway, which didn’t belong to the driver.

Officers interviewed the driver, who showed “obvious signs of intoxication,” police reported.

After placing the man under arrest for driving while intoxicated, the man fled on foot through several back yards.

Officers chased him but the man fought with officers and kneed one in the eye, causing an injury.

Samuel A. Beavers, 24, of Angola was charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, driving while intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic law violations, according to police.

Beavers is on parole and being held for arraignment. The injured officer was treated and released from a local hospital.
