LOCKPORT – Blood donations to the American Red Cross tend to be low during the summer, so State Sen. Robert G. Ortt, Lockport Mayor Anne E. McCaffrey and Lockport Police Chief Michael F. Niethe are trying to do something about it.
The three officials are joining with the Red Cross to sponsor a community blood drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday in Lockport’s Cornerstone Arena, Chestnut and Market streets.
Anyone who is healthy, at least 17 years old and weighs at least 110 pounds may donate. All blood types are needed. Accident victims, premature babies, people undergoing cancer treatment, organ recipients, and many others rely on the generosity of blood donors.
Walk-ins are welcome, but times to donate may be scheduled by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or visiting redcrossblood.org. Photo ID is required.
Donors will receive a free Red Cross lunch tote and pizza.
