Second place in the NWSL now belongs to the Western New York Flash as they defeated Chicago, 2-0, in a clash between contenders Friday night at Rochester Rhinos Stadium.

The teams entered the game tied for second place with 18 points but the Flash defeated the Red Stars (5-3-3) for the first time in four games on goals from Lianne Sanderson and Lynn Williams. Katelyn Rowland earned the shutout as the Flash won their fifth home game of the season and improved to 7-4-0 overall.

The Flash close out their seven-game homestand next Saturday with a 7 p.m. game against Seattle.
