Amherst police searching for driver who injured two pedestrians

Amherst Police detectives are searching for an out-of-state vehicle that struck two women at about 12:13 p.m. Friday at Kenmore Avenue and Main Street.

As Kelsey L. Smolinski 20, of Buffalo and Marie M. Destin, 61, of Kenmore were walking east in the crosswalk towards the University Plaza a vehicle that some witnesses said may have been a silver Nissan Rogue or a similar model made a left turn from Main onto the north lane on Kenmore, striking Smolinski and then driving off.

Smolinski knocked into Destin, who fell and injured her wrist and arm. Smolinski was taken to Sisters Hospital for treatment of head, neck and shoulder pain and Destin was taken to Kenmore Mercy Hospital for her arm injuries, according to Capt. Patrick McKenna of the Amherst Police Accident Investigation Unit.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Amherst Police at 689-1311.
