12-year-old girl injured after car strikes scooter

A 12-year-old girl riding a power scooter was struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon in the City of Tonawanda.

The collision happened at the intersection of Mitchell Drive and Wadsworth Avenue, just east of Two Mile Creek Road, at 12:40 p.m., City of Tonawanda police said.

The girl was heading north on Wadsworth while the driver of the car was heading west on Mitchell. The girl was taken to Women & Children’s Hospital with head and facial injuries. Her condition was not immediately available Tuesday morning.

The girl was not wearing a helmet while operating the battery-powered scooter, police said.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Kristine Maszczak, 54, of Wadsworth Avenue.

Police are continuing to investigate the collision.
