Healthy choices: Slow Roll, park walks, Ninja Day top WNY Refresh picks this week

Become a Ninja for a morning, enjoy a hike at Letchworth State Park or Ellicott Creek Park, or take a spin around the Central Terminal or the Buffalo waterfront. These are among the Top 10 WNY Refresh Calendar Picks of the Week.

MONDAY

Slow Roll: Riders gather at 5:30 p.m. and ride starts at 6:30 sharp on Monday, Buffalo Naval Park, Canalside. Bikers up to age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. For more information on rides later in the season, visit slowrollbuffalo.org.

WEDNESDAY

Wellness Wednesdays: Try any YMCA in the region free any Wednesday in June and, if you decide to join, the Y will waive the join fee. Learn more at YMCABN.org, stop at any of the five branches or call 565-6000.

Walking on Wednesdays: Noon Wednesday,  starting at Kaminski Park, 120 Carlton St. Hosted by the Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo.

FRIDAY

Inaugural Central Terminator Race and Festival: 7 to 11 p.m. ; also 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, including Terminator Bike Race at 10 a.m.; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, including a community ride from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Central Terminal, 495 Paderewski Drive. For more info, visit centraltermin8er.com.

Cancer survivor stories: If you are a cancer survivor, you are invited to share your story and listen as others tell theirs from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m., Roswell Park Cancer Institute. “A Hero’s Journey” will be led by Lani Peterson, a psychologist and award-winning storyteller who helps people connect with each other through their personal stories, and Fran Yardley, a retreat director, storyteller, writer and workshop leader who focuses on healing through storytelling. Survivors will receive a customized journal to continue their life’s journey after the event. Interested participants are encouraged to register at RoswellPark.org/SurvivorsDay. Free, with breakfast and lunch. The program is sponsored by the Jayne and Phil Hubbell family.

Meetup Buffalo Day Hikers: Gather for a hike at 9 a.m., Letchworth State Park Lower Falls parking lot. Access the group at meetup.com/cities/us/ny/buffalo.

Be Active Erie County Park Walks: Registration starts at 9 a.m., walk at 9:40 a.m.,  Ellicott Creek Park Casino, 1 Ellicott Creek Road, Town of Tonawanda. Hosted by the Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo.

Jada Blitz Training open house: 9 a.m., Jada Blitz Training, 4685 Transit Road, Amherst. Featuring a healthy food truck, special sign-up offers, free classes and more.

Be a NY Ninja Day: In celebration of the movie release of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” 10 a.m. to noon, Buffalo Harbor State Park, 1111 Fuhrmann Blvd., in the Outer Harbor. Free family-friendly event includes obstacle course, fitness talks by Hybrid Fitness owner Patrick Hall, who has appeared on the NBC show “American Ninja Warrior,” and a mini zoo featuring turtles and tortoises from the popular Nickel City Reptiles and Exotics.
