BERGEN – Legislation to rename the Bergen Post Office after a local hero has moved on to a final vote in the House of Representatives.
The measure would change the name of the 15 Rochester St. facility to the Barry G. Miller Post Office, in honor of the longtime volunteer firefighter and EMT who lost his life in the line of duty last September in the crash of an ambulance..
Miller, 50, also served as Genesee County coroner, owned Miller’s Millworks in Bergen and the Beaver River Lodge in the Adirondacks. He served on the Bergen Town Board for several years.
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., earlier this year introduced the renaming bill, which passed the Senate unanimously on Friday.
The House is expected to vote next month on a version of the bill introduced by Rep. Chris Collins, R-Clarence.
