Store owner beaten when he fights with an armed robber in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS – The owner of a Bridgeway Market in the 1100 block of Niagara Street was struck in the head by the butt end of a shotgun Wednesday night.

The 63-year-old owner told police that he and a clerk were sitting outside on the sidewalk just before 10 p.m. Two men, both of them wearing ski masks and dressed in black, approached the corner store from Memorial Parkway.

One man displayed what appeared to be a shotgun and demanded that the victims go inside the store. The clerk said he stepped away from the building and the owner tried to grab the gun from the suspect. While the two men wrestled, the second suspect went inside and grabbed a tin container from under the cash register that contained $400. The two men then fled in separate directions.

An ambulance was called for the owner, who was bleeding from the head, but he signed off on medical treatment, police reported.
