A spruced-up roundabout on Grand Island is being formally unveiled Thursday morning.
The roundabout at Grand Island Boulevard and Staley Road, at the first exit off the Niagara Thruway heading north onto the island, got new landscaping thanks to the state Department of Transportation.
River rock was laid down at the center of the roundabout and two lilac trees were planted. Several existing lilac trees were kept as part of the refurbishment. Fourteen white oak trees also were planted on the sides of the exit road.
Work on the project began last week.
The state DOT paid for the entire refurbishment and the Town of Grand Island will be responsible for upkeep of the new trees.
