Falls man admits inflicting brain injury

LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man pleaded guilty Thursday to beating up a male roommate April 13, leaving the victim with a traumatic brain injury.

Juan E. Carreras, 28, of Pierce Avenue, admitted to second-degree assault and was scheduled for sentencing July 25 by Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon. The maximum penalty is seven years in prison.

Deputy District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann said Carreras used no weapons, only fists and feet, to beat the victim. “He’s out of ICU and in rehab,” Hoffmann said.
