Rocco's offers homegrown lunches in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS - The recent closing of Mike's Deli Sandwiches on Military Road left a homespun eatery void in the fast-food and chain restaurant-dominated Military-Niagara Falls Boulevard business district. That gap closed with the opening of Rocco's Sandwiches and Catering at 10065 Niagara Falls Blvd., the site of the former Calabria Bakery.

Tucked between a barbershop and an insurance agency in a little strip plaza at the corner of the Boulevard and 101st Street, Rocco's fills the niche of tasty, homemade sandwiches using high-quality ingredients. It uses breads and rolls from Four Seasons Bakery in Niagara Falls, Ont., and cold cuts and meats from popular Falls landmark Latina's to offer steak-and-cheese and meatball subs, and more.

It's more of a take-out joint, having only four small tables on-site. In keeping with the sandwich theme, Rocco's is typically open only for lunch (10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily, until 5:30 p.m. Saturdays). If it's not on the menu, just ask and they'll do their best to accommodate. Daily specials are offered and they also do event catering. Phone: 297-7248.
