Wayne L. Pengelly, architect, member of Army Reserve

Oct. 20, 1944 – May 21, 2016

Wayne L. Pengelly, a Buffalo native, graduate of the University at Buffalo and former member of the Eggertsville Volunteer Fire Company, died Saturday in his home near Raleigh, N.C. He was 71.

He was an Eagle Scout and former member of the Army Reserve, earning a President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2012.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in architecture in 1975 from UB, Mr. Pengelly owned his own architecture and construction firm, Blayne Construction, for six years. He moved to Raleigh to work as an architect for IBM, retiring after 25 years.

He was an avid boater, fisherman and hunter.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, the former Mary Carle; a daughter, Megan Drulard; two sons, Shane and Tyler; a brother, Dennis; and six grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday in the Mitchell Funeral Home in Raleigh.
