A young mother pleaded guilty in Erie County Court Monday afternoon to killing her infant daughter in their Buffalo home in September.
Denay Foster, 23, of 14th Street originally was charged with murder and first-degree manslaughter in the death of 5-month-old Ver’Naylah Laventure. Monday she pleaded guilty to the lesser manslaughter charge before Judge Sheila A. DiTullio.
Foster was arrested a day after the infant died on Sept. 23. Authorities said the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
The case was investigated by Buffalo homicide detectives James Kaska and Patricia Wrest and prosecuted by the District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau Chief Colleen Curtin Gable.
DiTullio said she will consider the full range of options, from five to 25 years in prison, when Foster is sentenced Aug. 16.
