Amherst synagogue to host forum on opioid problem

Congregation Shir Shalom in Amherst will be holding a community information program at 7 p.m. May 31 to address the growing problem of opioid abuse. The synagogue is located at 4660 Sheridan Drive.

The synagogue’s program will include Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein and acting Erie County District Attorney Michael Flaherty, as well as John Flickinger from the Drug Enforcement Agency and Jodi Altman from Kids Escaping Drugs. Speakers will present general information about the problem of opioid abuse, risks for teens and brain development, what government and other agencies are doing, and what families can do.

The program is free and open to the community, for those aged 12 and up.
