Local historian to give talk on Botanical Gardens

LEWISTON – Robert Snyder, a local historian and horticultural expert, will present the “History of the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens” at 7 p.m. Thursday at a meeting of the Historical Association of Lewiston. The presentation will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah, 915 Oneida St., Lewiston.

Snyder will cover all aspects of the gardens’ 115-year history and will discuss its amazing current horticultural collection.

Snyder is a retired public school art teacher and has volunteered for the past decade at the Botanical Gardens. He is also helping restore the Orchard Park railroad depot. He aided in placing the depot on the State and National Register of Historic Places and facilitated a stewardship award for the depot from Preservation Buffalo Niagara.

The evening also will serve as the group’s annual organizational meeting. The public is welcome to hear about association updates, while members will vote to fill trustee vacancies.
