Kiss a cow at Asha Sanctuary

NEWFANE – Visitors are invited to participate in “Kiss A Cow Day” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 29 at Asha Sanctuary, 2969 Coomer Road.

The sanctuary for farmed animals is hosting its second annual event as a chance for the public to meet rescued donkeys, sheep, turkeys, a pot-bellied pig and goat, and Albert, the farm’s friendly young Jersey cow.

The event will be hosted this year by Hot Cousin, a musical comedy duo, and will feature a performance by Porcelain Train. Black Willow Winery will sponsor a wine bar and the event also will feature vendors, a silent auction, food for sale, and a bakeoff with prizes for the top three places, as well as a “best in show” ribbon.

Participants in the bakeoff receive free admission, but must register with entry fee and full recipe by Friday by visiting: @ashasanctuary.com/bakeoff.html.

Murphy founded the sanctuary in January 2013. The sanctuary takes in animals formerly found – most in deplorable condition – on farms and at auction houses, who find a new home on the 27-acre farm where they are cared for by Murphy and volunteers.

All proceeds from this event benefit animal rescue and care at Asha, a 501 (c)3 not for profit organization. Tickets at the door are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 4-12, and free for children 3 and under. Full-time students with ID also are free. For more information, or to purchase adult discount ticket by Friday, visit www.ashasanctuary.com.
