The So So Glos may be from Brooklyn, but the band’s music captures everything beloved about the greatest hits of English punk, both modern and classic. The quartet has the swagger, edge and sharp tongue of the best modern punk groups here in the states a la FIDLAR, while never straying too far into harsh territory. Instead, So So Glos opts to return to a time when melody and punk still went hand in hand (The Clash influence is very evident).
Since forming in 2007, the band – bassist Alex Levine, guitarists Ryan Levine and Matt Elkin and drummer Zach Staggers – has received acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, Robert Christgau and Consequence of Sound as well as having toured with the diverse likes of Titus Andronicus, …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead and Matt and Kim.
The band also has contributed greatly to the all-ages venue movement in New York, creating its own performance space – Shea Stadium – with producer Adam Reich. This space has been a training ground for bands and was even a stop for Buffalo’s Made Violent on a previous tour.
As the band prepared to release its new disc, “Kamikaze” on May 20, it heads to Buffalo for a show May 19 in Waiting Room (334 Delaware Ave.).Doors open at 7 p.m. Also performing are The Dirty Nil, Hundred Plus Club and 3 Hour Power Shower. Tickets are $10 (ticketfly.com).
