NIAGARA FALLS - After spicing up hundreds - if not thousands - of catered parties, reunions and other gatherings over the years with their feisty Italian sausage and other goodies, the Scipione family branched out into the restaurant business recently, opening a deli in their longtime Pine Avenue storefront.
Located beneath the arch marking beginning of the city's Little Italy neighborhood (3010 Pine Ave.), Scipione's Italian Deli and Catering opened in late April, taking over the old meat counter. With a few small tables added and some photographic history adorning the walls, it's a neat place to enjoy a quick sandwich, salad or homemade soup or chili.
Open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (closed Sundays), the deli features fresh cold cuts atop DiCamillo's bread and rolls. Of course, there is the family's signature pork sausage, as well as "Western New York's finest'' roast beef on weck, burgers, chicken breast sandwiches and more.
And it wouldn't be Scipione's if you couldn't take out that delicious fresh sausage (rope or patties) by the pound.
Located in the same spot since 1968, Scipione's is a slice of Falls history.
