KEOUGH, Herbert Francis

KEOUGH - Herbert Francis Herbert Francis Keough was born August 10, 1920 to Emmet Robert Keough and Marguerite Warren Keough in the Town of Birdsall, Allegany County, the third of six sons and one daughter. He graduated from Canaseraga Central School and Alfred State College. He served in WW II as a member of the 2759th Combat Engineers Battalion, seeing action in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany from 1942 to 1945, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. His company's motto was "We can fix anything, but a broken heart and the break of day". Herb lived by that philosophy for his whole life. He died and joined his dear wife Ruth Esther Whitehead in heaven on April 27, 2016. In 1976 he became the Western New York regional director of the newly created Vehicle Safety Division of the State Department of Motor Vehicles. He and Ruth moved from her hometown, Waterloo, to Erie County and then Wyoming County outside Arcade, NY. Though he never had sons of his own, Herb loved and admired his three sons-in-law. He also mentored many younger men and would especially want to remember his very close friends, Gary Saunders, Ray Boreanz, Jim Hunt, Dennis Reisdorf, Jerry George, Milan Malik, and Bill Craft. Jamey Craft was also loved as a fourth daughter. He was predeceased by his parents, his five brothers, and his beloved wife Ruth. He is survived by sister Myrtle; daughters, Janet Keough; Margery Merzig; Frances Wadhams and their spouses; and grandchildren: Timothy, Martha, Katie, Sarah, Peter, Stephanie and Andrew and their spouses. He had 7 great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being made through the Mull Funeral Home in Waterloo, NY. A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family and burial will take place in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo.
