Norine Turner of East Amherst, a retired bookkeeper and accountant, died May 3 in Garden Gate Health Care Facility, Cheektowaga, following a brief illness. She was 82.
Born in Buffalo, she was a graduate of the former St. Nicholas Academy.
She worked as an accountant and bookkeeper at Turner Accounting for many years.
Mrs. Turner served as a eucharistic minister at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Swormville for 26 years. She also served in that capacity for Heathwood Nursing Home in Williamsville, where she led prayer meditation services several times a month.
In 1994, she started volunteering in the pastoral care office at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst, where she racked up more than 3,300 hours of volunteer service delivering communion and solace to the terminally ill up to the time of her own illness.
She is survived by her husband, Edward R., to whom she had been married since 1954; two daughters, Rita N. Baker and Genevive M. Hapeman; a son, Edward R. Jr.; four sisters, Mary Styn, Jane Troidl, Sister Mary Elise and Shelia Offhause; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary’s Church, 6919 Transit Road, Swormville.
