Canisius softball stays alive

Canisius stayed alive in the Metro Atlantic Athletc Conference Softball Championship with a 1-0 win over Fairfield at Grantland Field in Poughkeepsie.

Sophomore Moriah Harris laid down a squeeze bunt with one out in the bottom of the eighth that allowed junior Samantha Sharkey to score from third base for the win in an elimination game. Sophomore Madi Weathers pitched the complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits with four strikeouts and two walks throwing 108 pitches in the win. Canisius (23-31) moves on to meet Monmouth at noon Friday in a second elimination game. That contest will start at 12 p.m.
