Bulletin Board (May 13): Notes and events

Miranda Roberson competed at USA Gymnastics Eastern Nationals Level 9 meet in Senior 6 age group, and took fourth place on bars with a 9.15. Mackenzie Donner, Senior 7 age group, was fourth on vault (9.375), fourth on beam (9.20) and fifth on floor (9.20). Ava Shiff (Junior 1), Olivia Warrington (Junior 5), and Gabbi Gare (Senior 1) also competed. Participating at the USA Junior Olympic Level 10 National meet in Fort Worth, Texas, Zoe Kyriakopoulos scored a 37.40 in the all-around, 21st place in the country in Junior C division.

BASKETBALL: The Buffalo Niagara Court Center and Buffalo Titans are hosting the Clash of the Titans AAU tournaments for ages 12-17. The girls tournament will be held June 11-12 and the boys on June 18-19. Cost is $300 per team and registration must be completed online at www.bnccsports.com. ... A series of advanced level shooting technique clinics for “perimeter” guard players only will be held on Sunday afternoons this summer beginning June 5. The 90-minute intense sessions are intended for the serious already developed “intermediate to advanced level” perimeter players who want to improve their shooting skills within a highly structured environment. These clinics will have two groups, one female, and one male from the sixth grade and above age groups. Each group will initially be limited to only 20 participants. LACROSSE: The Buffalo Bandits will hold three youth clinics for boys and girls on May 17-19 at First Niagara Center, ages 5-7 will be from 6-7 p.m., ages 8-10 from 7-8 p.m., and ages 11-16 from 8-9 p.m. Each session is $35. Participants will receive on-floor instruction as well as one free ticket to the May 21 Bandits playoff home game, a team yearbook, a team photo and an autographed photo of a select Bandits player. Players are required to bring at least their own stick, gloves, helmet and sneakers, but full box lacrosse equipment is strongly encouraged. The sessions are not designed for goalies, but interested goalies will be allowed to sign up. Bandits’ players Dhane Smith, David Brock, Adam Will, Anthony Malcom and Mitch Jones will be providing instruction.

RUNNING: Fleet Feet Sports will offer a six-week Speed Camp starting June 8. Speed Camp is a program designed for those who want to reach their goals as to running a faster 5K. Participants will meet once a week with their experienced coaches at Crosby Field in Kenmore. Workouts will be track based, with formal instruction. Coaches will provide weekly e-newsletters and clinics on running form and technique, race day prep, base mileage, and injury prevention. SOCCER: Sahlen’s Sports Park men’s summer session registrations starts Thursday and ends June 23. Each team will play six matches and the cost is $650, which includes referee fees. Register at www.sahlensportspark.com or 655-7529 for more details.
