Letter: It is ridiculous to have prayer vigil for strikers

It is ridiculous to have prayer vigil for strikers

Really! A prayer vigil for the Verizon strikers? Don’t get me wrong. People go on strike for a variety of reasons. That’s their right. But I can’t believe the clergy joined Verizon workers on the picket line for a prayer vigil. That borders on ridiculous. Then The News put a picture of it in the paper.

Gosh, I can think of a whole lot of better situations for a prayer vigil. These good people chose to strike. This wasn’t a catastrophe. Seems to me priorities have changed, and not for the better. I’m still shaking my head in disbelief.

A group of strikers who had good-paying jobs with decent benefits and are able to provide for their families? Make no mistake – these people will go back to those envious jobs when their work stoppage is over. So let’s not portray this to be something that it is not. Really – a prayer vigil? Give me a break.
