Linda J. O’Neil, of Cheektowaga, a longtime furniture shop owner, died April 25 in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga. She was 76.
Born in Buffalo, the former Linda J. Parmentier was a graduate of Kensington High School and attended Bryant & Stratton Business Institute. She worked as an accountant and office manager at several businesses, including Ellicott Paint Co., and at the Internal Revenue Service.
At the age of 19, with her mother, Marguerite Parmentier, she started Elmwood Furniture Shop and continued to operate it for more than 50 years, working with her daughter, Bonnie Sue Yerry, who died in 1987, and her granddaughter, Tiffany Ann Aronica, whom she raised.
Mrs. O’Neil was a member of the board of directors of the Compassionate Friends and a member of Bereaved Parents of the USA. She also was a volunteer at Hospice Life Transitions Center for several years.
She was a watch captain with the Cheektowaga Police Department and treasurer of its executive board. She was a graduate of the second Advanced Citizens Police Academy.
She was a lifelong member of Epiphany United Church of Christ, where her grandparents were charter members.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Roger J. Sr.
