Fake ‘movie prop’ money used to swindle Western New Yorkers

Cheektowaga Police this week charged an Amherst woman with trying to use movie prop money to buy two jars of mayonnaise.

Rinet Fox, 47, of Sudbury Lane, tried to use the fake $100 bill on Wednesday at Restaurant Depot on Duke Road. The bill had the words “for motion picture use only” on it.

Fox was charged with possession of a forged instrument, arraigned and released on her own recognizance, police said.

On April 17, a man told Cheektowaga police he got three of these fake $100 bills when he sold some property to another person.

Cheektowaga Police warn that citizens should carefully inspect large bills because the money used in the film and TV industry looks very real.

On April 20, a 21-year-old man told Buffalo police he sold someone sneakers and the person paid with the fake bills that had “for motion picture use only” printed on them.
