Town (current residence): Orchard Park
Current occupation and/or community involvement:
This is my 29th year teaching in a local public high school. My hobbies include teaching/coaching soccer for the Orchard Park Soccer Club, New York State West ODP, and Empire United Buffalo.
Number of years you have lived in the school district: 16
Have you run for office before? No
Please tell us about yourself:
During my teaching career I have worked for and collaborated with four superintendents, five senior high school principals, several assistant superintendents, and numerous senior high school assistant principals. My New York State Teaching Certification is in Social Studies, Business Education, and Drivers Education. In 1992 I earned a Masters Degree from Canisius College in Educational Administration.
Please describe the top issues facing your school district and how you would address them as a school board member:
I am concerned about the Orchard Park School District Administrators being overwhelmed with overseeing New York State's APPR requirements. They must continue to be educational leaders which put the educational needs of the students first. The Orchard Park School District must continue to provide a diverse course offering, and diverse curriculum for a diverse student body.
Do you think public education in New York is headed in the right direction? No
Please explain why, in 100 words or less:
The New York State Education Department is steering instruction towards a very narrow path. Cookie cutter curriculum is not properly servicing the needs of public school students across New York State. School districts are also faced with unfair financial pressure due to unfounded mandates.
