Please tell us about yourself:
I am a life long resident of Akron. Which makes me a former graduate of Akron Central. I have always worked in our community. I am a mother of five children. Four of my children have successfully graduated from Akron Central School and I still have one child just 2 years away! I also have nine grandchildren. Out of the 8 living grandkids, seven already attend Akron Central. Very invested in ACS and it's future.
Please describe the top issues facing your school district and how you would address them as a school board member.:
I am new to being a school board member, I am going in "green"! But I am here to learn, listen and be a voice for our children's education, staff and our community. That being said, I am concerned about the issues of the CommonCore throughout NYS. Want to make sure it is truly for best interest of the child and not hold teacher's accountable due to testing. Akron is pretty good at working together.
Do you think public education in New York is headed in the right direction? Yes
Please explain why, in 100 words or less:
There are ups and downs in our NYS education, as there are in life itself. Laws and rules change. Some things the state tries, to make education better, and some things they try might fail. In NYS we need to always keep our goal for the BEST achievements in our education for ALL children. So they can pursue their goals, dreams and be all they can be, because of learning! I feel we are heading in a right direction, just some bumps we need to fix.
