FREWSBURG — A worker’s memorial event will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chautauqua County Workers’ Memorial Site at Erlandson Overview Park on Oak Hill Road, to remember all the men and women from Chautauqua County who have been killed on the job, in the line of duty or died from job related causes.
This year’s ceremony will recognize 143 individuals who have died since 1980, including Alan Harding of Cassadaga who lost his life on Feb. 20 in a farm accident.
The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served. Expected to speak are state Sen. Catharine Young, R-57th District; state Assemblyman Andrew Goodell, R-Jamestown; and retired Dunkirk teacher and New York State United Teachers Board of Directors member Joseph Sweeney.
Chautauqua County Executive Vince Horrigan called the event an honor to the memory of the workers as well as a reminder to create and promote a safe work environment for all employees.
The Chautauqua County Workers’ Memorial Site is jointly supported by the Chautauqua County government and parks commission, local labor unions and donations from supporters.
