Rita M. White, volunteer with Foster Grandparents, Erie County Family Court and Catholic Charities

Nov. 9, 1935 – April 21, 2016

Rita M. White of Buffalo, active as a volunteer, died unexpectedly April 21 in Erie County Medical Center. She was 80.

Born in Asbury Park, N.J., the youngest of eight children, the former Rita Jones came to Buffalo in 1952 after marrying Charles Edward White.

She worked at Nazareth Nursing Home and was a custodian at the University at Buffalo; she retired in 1992.

In retirement, Mrs. White volunteered for the Foster Grandparents program, Erie County Family Court and Catholic Charities.

She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

Her husband died in 1990.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary L. Smith, Stacia D., Renee “Angel” Jones and Deborah A.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

There will be no services.
