Dominic A. Pontillo Jr., of Alexander in Genesee County, who worked for many years in the retail service industry as a general manager, died Monday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after a brief illness. He was 91.
Born in Old Saybrook, Conn., he moved to Western New in the early 1950s. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Arkansas during World War II. Mr. Pontillo took part in the invasion of Normandy and Omaha Beach.
He worked in retail service for Sports Service Concessions from 1947 to 1962. He was a general manager of the Thruway Plaza, later the Thruway Mall, from 1962 to 1986, and served in the same capacity at AppleTree Business Park from 1986 to 2001, when he retired.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Slawiak and Gina Morrison; three sons, Dominic III, Jeffrey and Gregory; a sister, Lydia McPherson; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. John’s Catholic Church, 2021 Sandridge Road, Alden.
