Trane plans another try for Lewiston highway superintendent

LEWISTON – David J. Trane, who lost last year’s election for Lewiston highway superintendent by seven votes, announced he is running again.

Another election must be held this year, since the man who defeated Trane, Republican Douglas A. Janese, died of cancer Feb. 16 at age 62.

Trane, a Democrat, said in a news release that he thinks the GOP-controlled Town Board ought to appoint him to the vacant job, since the election was so close. “If the board looks at credentials and not partisan considerations, along with my proven support of the people of Lewiston, I am the logical choice,” he said.

Trane worked 10 years for the state Department of Transportation as a laborer, equipment operator and crew chief before joining the Niagara Falls Fire Department, from which he is now retired. He served as president of the firefighters’ union during his time in the department.
