Martin Cooks chef-owner working on downtown restaurant

Martin Danilowicz, chef-owner of Martin Cooks, will be opening a new downtown restaurant, according to the building’s owner.

Architect and landlord Steve Carmina of Carmina Wood Morris told a Buffalo Place meeting this morning that Danilowicz would be operating a new restaurant at 5-7 Genesee St. That would put it near the Hyatt, between Raclettes and Oshun.

Danilowicz declined to offer more information about his project today, saying that he would describe his restaurant after he’s worked out the details.

Danilowicz has operated Martin Cooks in the Horsefeathers building, 346 Connecticut St., since 2013. The restaurant’s Saturday brunch, lunches and prix fixe counter-service dinners have drawn legions of fans to the West Side.

Besides Martin Cooks, Danilowicz also opened a counter in an Elmwood Avenue Sunoco station last year serving chicken, noodles and tacos. It closed early this year.
