Lockport gallery opens Joseph Whalen exhibit

LOCKPORT – An exhibit of the works of the late Lockport painter Joseph A. Whalen will open from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and continue through May 22 in ART247, 247 Market St., Lockport.

The paintings to be shown are taken from the private collection of Whalen’s close friend Paul Hunt. Many of the works have not been seen publicly in decades, ART247 owner Heather N. Grimmer said. The paintings will be shown in the Joseph Whalen Family Gallery at ART247, and free-will donations are encouraged to benefit the gallery and the Joseph Whalen Foundation, set up by his widow Kathleen M. Whalen to support local art scholarships.

Whalen died Dec. 17 at age 87.
