Old Route 219 bridge to close for replacement

Construction is to start Monday on the replacement of the old Route 219 bridge spanning Cattaraugus Creek in Erie and Cattaraugus counties.

The bridge, now known as the South Cascade Drive-Miller Road bridge, will be closed to all traffic starting Monday.

Detours will divert traffic onto U.S. Route 219 in Concord and Ashford, and motorists on the highway should expect to encounter lane shifts, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The new traffic patterns will be in effect for the duration of the $16.9 million project, which is to be completed by September, 2017.
