He stood in for Freddie Mercury. He returned to pay tribute to Mick Jagger. And now the intrepid Brody Dolyniuk is back at Kleinhans Music Hall, this time singing the music of Elton John.
“I enjoy being versatile and doing different things,” he told The News in 2013, on the occasion of one of his previous visits. “I can jump from Freddie’s style to Mick’s style to Robert Plant’s style.” Did we mention he also starred in the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s tributes to Led Zeppelin? And the Who?
With the BPO’s upcoming tribute to Elton John, Dolyniuk goes back to his roots. He got into show biz as a piano bar artist, and when a friend jokingly gave him a pair of star-shaped sunglasses, he saw the light and assembled an Elton John band, Yellow Brick Road. He had the band, which was a big hit in Las Vegas, for 14 years. And good thing, too. Because Elton John’s music, with its clarity and simplicity, is harder to pull off than it sounds.
Dolyniuk and the BPO present a tribute to Elton John at 8 p.m. April 23 in Kleinhans. Tickets are $44.50-$64.50. Call 885-5000 or visit bpo.org.
