License plate reader helps police arrest men in stolen car in Cheektowaga

Cheektowaga police arrested two men found driving in a stolen car Sunday on Ridge Park Road.

A license plate reader on Officer Garrett Slawatycki’s vehicle alerted him to the stolen vehicle, which was driving south on Ridge Park as the officer drove north.

When the Slawatycki turned his cruiser around, the driver of the stolen vehicle – a 2007 Lincoln reported stolen in Jamestown – pulled over and ran from the scene.

After a perimeter was set up and a search was conducted, Marlon Clay, 20, of Buffalo, was found hiding in a garbage tote in the driveway of a Wanda Avenue home, police said.

His passenger, Markeel Hilson, 19, of Buffalo, stayed at the scene and was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Clay and Hilson were charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and criminal possession of stolen property.
