Family events celebrate spring, nature

It is time to celebrate nature at its finest. Here are a few ideas sure to please everyone in the family, especially the kiddos.

The Spring Nature Festival at Chestnut Ridge Park (6121 Chestnut Ridge Road, Orchard Park) will celebrate Earth Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 23. The family themed event includes live animal demonstrations, archery lessons for kids and ecology hikes. Food trucks will be there for lunch and snacks.

Celebrate nature with Penguin Days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 23 and 24 at the Aquarium of Niagara in Niagara Falls. You can get up close with a Peruvian penguin and ask questions about the cute birds.

There will be mascots, prizes and you can watch the penguin feedings. It is all free with admission to the aquarium: adults, $9.50; kids 4-12, $6; under 3 are admitted free. Visit aquariumofniagara.org.

The 21st annual Lewiston Spring Fling is  set to take place from 1 to 4 p.m. April 24  at Marilyn Toohey Park (North Fourth Street, Lewiston). Kids can enter the sidewalk chalk contest and check out the petting zoo, mini golf or balloon sculptures.

All activities are free, and so are the hot dogs and drinks. What more could you ask for?  Each family is asked to bring a dessert to pass. It will be held rain or shine.

The Glen Park Arts Festival (5565 Main St., Williamsville) will get you dancing with dozens of roving performers. There will be plenty of children's activities, lots of food vendors, and dozens or artists selling their wares. The fun takes place from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 24
