Doris H. Benincasa, 101, retired English teacher

Jan. 13, 1915 – April 15, 2016

Doris H. Benincasa, a former English teacher at Bennett High School, died Friday in Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Williamsville. She was 101.

The former Doris Kreitner was born in Buffalo and graduated from D’Youville College in 1937. She taught English at Bennett High School and chaired the English Department. She also was a school psychologist at Cheektowaga and Alden schools.

Mrs. Benincasa was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in the Town of Tonawanda, where she volunteered with the Pro-Life Committee. She was also a volunteer at Buffalo Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading and also played the saxophone.

Her husband of 29 years, Benjamin, died in 1971.

She is survived by a sister, Lois Wilcox; three daughters, Mary Weisenburger, Donna M. Brown and Linda Benincasa; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 25 Roma Ave.
