Flash win opener in Kansas City

The WNY Flash couldn’t have asked for a better start to their season late Saturday night.

The Flash knocked off FC Kansas City, 1-0, in a road game. Kansas City has won the NWSL championship in the last two seasons.

The only goal of the game came on a penalty kick by Sam Mewis in the 72nd minute. Kansas City’s Becky Sauerbrunn, a member of the U.S. National Team, was called for a handball.

Goalie Sabrina D’Angelo was perfect in goal. The game had some drama at the end, as Heather O’Reilly of KC hit the post on a penalty kick in stoppage time.

The Flash have another road game coming, as they play the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday.
