Lowdown: A junior-college transfer from East Mississippi Community College, Reed was named second-team All-SEC in 2015 even though his stats don’t jump off the page. His ability to occupy multiple blockers and versatility to play anywhere along the defensive line is a big reason why. He is an elite run defender who does all the dirty work. Alabama coaches did not charge Reed with any missed tackles this past season. … Played only 55 percent of snaps and is not much of a pass-rush threat, with only one sack in two years. Coaches subbed him out on obvious passing downs. … Character concerns are present stemming from an arrest for DUI in 2014.
They said it: “Few, if any, defensive lineman in this class possess the kind of technique Reed shows consistently when run defending. He wins off the snap, standing his blocker up to gain control, then reads the direction effectively to make the stop.” – Pro Football Focus’ John Breitenbach
