MURPHY, Richard W. "Dick"

MURPHY - Richard W. "Dick" Age 88, formerly of Buffalo, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carol (Castle) Murphy; three children, Dianne (Alan) Eagle, Carol Susan Murphy and Barbara M. Daly; four grandchildren, Sandi (Phillip) Munson, Peter Eagle, Ashley (Sean) McMullen and Zack Daly; three great-grandchildren, Lily, Paige and Sophie; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Loyal Murphy. Dick was born in Wilkinsburg, PA and was the son of Loyal and Edna (Grove) Murphy. He was a graduate of Amherst Central School, class of 1946 and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Bethany College in West Virginia. Dick worked in advertising and sales promotion for over 32 years, for Westinghouse Electric Corporation and National Gypsum Company. Dick was a member of the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, an Elder and President of the Men's Club. He played violin in the Amherst Symphony Orchestra for several years. In 1983, he and Carol moved to Canandaigua and opened Happy Clutter Antiques & Gifts on Rte's. 5 & 20. The store closed in 2001, but antique shows extended the business for several more years. His Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 14, at 2 PM, at the United Church, 11 Gibson St., Canandaigua.
