Police charge a man with drug possession after he is found lying on the ground

Police stopped to question a Grand Island man found lying on the ground Thursday at Niagara and Hampshire streets in Buffalo. The investigation led to an arrest for drug possession.

Police said Ryan M. Pettit was found just after midnight and had a syringe in a sweatshirt pocket, a Tic Tac container with heroin on the cap in a trousers’ pocket and a small bolt cutter in another trousers’ pocket. An officer said Pettit had tried to throw something across the street.

Pettit, of Red Jacket Road, had turned 29 on Wednesday, according to a police report. He was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic needle, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, and possession of burglar tools.
