Gang member linked to 2006 murders gets 10 years

A West Side gang member involved in a double murder was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

Luis Hernandez, 26, a member of the 10th Street Gang, had previously pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph M. Tripi said the defendant was one of six 10th Street Gang members and associates who sought out rival 7th Street Gang members in April 2006 and fired into a group of people outside a home on Pennsylvania Street. Two bystanders, Brandon MacDonald and Darinell Young, were shot and killed.

Hernandez’ sentence is the result of an investigation by the FBI, Buffalo Police, New York State Police and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
