McCabe named to U.S. world championship team; O'Reilly clears waivers

Jake McCabe and USA Hockey go way back, so it's no surprise to see their relationship going forward.

McCabe was one of 12 players named to the U.S. world championship Tuesday. The Sabres defenseman has previously played for the U.S. National Team Development Program, the under-17 and under-18 teams, the world junior team and the 2014 world championship team.

He'll wear the red, white and blue beginning May 6 in Russia. Other players who will represent the United States include Nick Foligno, Noah Hanifin and probable No. 1 overall draft pick Auston Matthews.

In other Sabres news, Cal O'Reilly cleared waivers and will report to Rochester for the final three games of the season. O'Reilly needed waivers to go to the Amerks because he spent more than 30 days in Buffalo.
