Last week, Dopapod kicked off its spring tour with a killer rendering of the diabolical Rush instrumental “YYZ” at the Bluebird Theater in Denver. This was a gift to fans who’ve been clamoring for a cover of this tricky piece for several years, via the band’s Twitter-based fan group, DopaFam.
Perhaps taking this playful, yet profound opening gambit as a positive omen for the spring tour is a bit of a stretch. But let’s do it anyway.
The band is touring behind its fourth release, “Never Odd or Even,” but as fans know, the set list is forever in a state of flux with this quartet of top-tier musicians.
The tour stops here for show at 9 p.m. April 20 in what will be its debut performance in Buffalo Iron Works (49 Illinois St.), following torrid performances at the Tralf, Nietzsche’s and Waiting Room over the last few years.
Indianapolis jamtronica trio Turbo Suit will open the show. Tickets are $12 advance (ticketfly.com) and $15 at the door.
